Where your audio goes

We say we don't keep your recordings. Here is every place a recording exists, and for how long.

Stage	What happens there
On the device's card	The recording is written encrypted with AES-256. After the transcript comes back, the device deletes the file.
On OnlyText servers	With OnlyText transcription, the recording is uploaded still encrypted and held only until our transcription server picks it up. It is decrypted there to be transcribed and deleted once the transcript is done. We keep the text, not the audio.
On your phone	Only when the recorder can't reach Wi-Fi: the app fetches the recording over an authenticated Bluetooth link and uploads it the same way. The copy on the phone is deleted right after it is uploaded.

If you want none of this

OnlyText can point at a transcription service you host. Then the only machines that see your audio are yours.
